Durant also is located less than 1.5 hours north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Durant is home to many great attractions, such as beautiful Lake Texoma with its camping and fishing opportunities, plus historic Fort Washita, dating from 1842, the Three Valley Museum, featuring Choctaw artifacts, and historic downtown Durant. Under the leadership of Chief Gregory E. Pyle, the tribe continues to place an emphasis on education and currently graduates more college students than any other Indian tribe in the nation.
