| Mountain View - Southwest (Great Plains Country) | |||||||||
Mountain View is located in Kiowa County, along the banks of the Washita River in beautiful southwest Oklahoma. Founded in 1903, the town's population has grown to around 900. Mountain View is home to one of the state's largest annual Horse Sales, attracting buyers from all over the country to this great event. The town's three-day Free Fair, held annually on the first weekend in August, draws a huge crowd from the region. Within 5 miles, there are four historic rural cemeteries, where some of the area's best (and worst) are buried. Mountain View's historic downtown includes an Art Deco Gas Station and some excellent turn-of-the-century commercial architecture. The community's recreational facilities and park areas are well worth a visit. In 2004, Mountain View will become the Northern Gateway to the "Wichita Mountains Scenic Byway".
