| Noble - Central (Frontier Country) | |||||||||
Noble, the Rose Rock Capital of the World, is located 5 miles south of Norman in Cleveland County. Noble earned its distinguished title because rose rocks can only be found in a narrow 80 mile strip through central Oklahoma, with the highest concentration in the world located in Noble. In 1968, the rose rock was officially adopted as Oklahoma’s State Rock. Legend has it that the rose rock represents the blood of the braves and the tears of the maidens who made the journey from Georgia to Oklahoma, also known as the Trail of Tears. It is said that the blood and tears that fell to the earth turned into stones in the shape of a Cherokee rose, a flower native to Georgia, the Cherokees’ former home. The first weekend in May, the state rock is celebrated with the Rose Rock Music Festival. The 2 day festival features a parade, car show, poker run, carnival, craft and food booths and of course, a great variety of music from rock to blues to country to gospel throughout both days. When visiting Noble, be sure to stop by the Timberlake Rose Rock Museum or enjoy a vineyard tour and enjoy wine tasting at Canadian River Vineyards and Winery. After a day of sight seeing, have dinner at Kendall’s known for the best chicken fried steak in the state. And after dinner, if you feel the need for speed, head south to Thunder Valley Raceway Park, Oklahoma’s premier ¼ mile drag racing facility.
