From our rich Native American history, to our natural beauty and sophisticated offerings of today, Shawnee's spirit will move you!

Founded in the 1890's as "Indian Territory," our culture has been strongly influenced by the local Indian tribes. Along with our colorful past, you'll discover a blend of contemporary offerings that will captivate and entertain you.

Test your skills at one of our championship golf courses, or fill your day shopping the mall and browsing antique and craft shops downtown. For outdoor enthusiasts, Shawnee Twin Lakes and Wes Watkins Reservoir are ideal for camping, swimming, fishing and skiing. Wes Watkins Reservoir also is a fisherman's heaven, with underwater roadbeds and railroad tracks, and miles of creek channels that provide excellent fishing.

Round out your trip to Shawnee with a visit to one of our museums. Begin by discovering the Santa Fe Depot on East Main. The Potawatomi Tribal Museum is located on tribal grounds south of downtown. At the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art on the campus of St. Gregory's University, artifacts from Babylon, Greece, Rome and other parts of the world, coupled with a remarkable collection of Egyptian mummies and artifacts, will captivate you.

Dining in Shawnee includes an endless variety of international cuisine, including Chinese, Italian and Mexican, as well as specialties such as steaks, barbecue and seafood.

Colorful history or carefree recreation. A night on the town or a day to kick back. Shawnee will captivate and entertain no matter what your age or interest.
